Yeongcheon Market, famous for its food is conveniently located across the road from Independence Gate and minutes walk from Dongnimmun Station. It is one of the representative markets in Seodaemun-gu.
There are over 130 stores along the 250m alley, selling a variety items from fruits, vegetables, seafood, snacks to stationery.
With more than half of the stores selling food, it is no wonder of the number of 'star restaurants' at this local traditional market.
Many of the food stores have been introduced on popular TV variety programs like Baek Jong Won's Top 3 Chef King (SBS). You can easily find these stores from the queue or posters of the TV program where they are featured right on their shop front.
Famous Eats #1: Kkwabaegi (Twisted Korean Doughnuts)
There are a few stores selling freshly-made twisted Korean doughnuts at Yeongcheon Market.
Of which, one of the popular stores is located on your right when walking towards Yeongcheon Market's entrance from Independence Gate or Dongnimmun Station.
This doughnut store opens from 7:00 to 15:30, or when sold out on weekdays. Closed on Sunday and only opened on Saturday morning.

Interestingly at this market, you can get to eat King Crabs! The price is cheaper than the more touristy Noryangjin Fish Market and more centrally-located (to Seoul Station/Myeongdong) as compared to Garak Market, located across the Han River.
