In the past, Songdo Beach was often given a miss by visitors for the likes of Haeundae Beach or Gwangalli Beach. Being the first public beach in Korea that opened in July 1913, it has lose its lustre with time.
However, much have changed in recent years to bring back tourists to the 800m long and 50m wide beach and its surrounding attractions.
Songdo Beach is reborn as a new hot spot of Busan. Together with Songdo Yonggung Suspension Bridge nearby, they have made it to the Top 100 must-visit tourist spots in Korea (2021-2022)!
In the last decades, Songdo Beach and surrounding area has undergone major restoration and transformation to bring back tourists with a sandy beach with clean water; refurbished Geobukseom Island (/Turtle Island) and connected to the new attraction, Songdo Cloud Trails; restored marine cable car and rebranded as Busan Air Cruise; rebuilt, relocated and renamed Songdo Yonggung Suspension Bridge.
💡The name "Songdo" comes about from its heavily forested pine trees in the olden days.
Songdo Beach offers various festivals throughout the year, including the Sunrise Festival in January, the Daljip Festival in February, the Summer Sea Festival and Hyeonin Song Festival in August, and the Mackerel Festival in October, as well as the Songdo National Marine Sports Competition.
