Jeongdong Observatory & Cafe Darak 정동전망대
Free to Observatory
City Hall Station (line 1/2, exit 1/12). 3 mins walk.
Jeongdong Observatory is located on the 13th floor of the Seoul City Hall Seosomun Building.
The floor was previously a storage room for equipment but was transformed into an observatory and opened to public for free since 2013. Nonetheless, it remains very much a great 'hidden' place in Seoul, not known to many tourists.
From the observatory, one can have the best view of Deoksugung Palace, Seoul City Hall and its surroundings.
The view of the tree tops along Deoksugung Stone-wall Road is especially beautiful in Autumn when the leaves displayed different shades of red.
In Winter, the snow covered landscape creates another memorable sight from Jeongdong Observatory.
At Cafe Darak, one can relax and enjoy the scenery over coffee on different seasons.
On the walls of the cafe, there is a photo exhibition that shows the historical appearance of Chungdong First Methodist Church, Gyeongungung Palace (the prior name of Deoksugung Palace) and other sites in the area.
Take a moment to see the difference of the past and the present at Jeongdong Observatory and Cafe Darak in your holiday to Seoul.
